A dog's secret love

Friday Finn and I went to the farm by our house. Too get Finn excited about Halloween, I bought him a tiny pumpkin. Later that day and the next day, any chance Oscar had to get the pumpkin he'd have it in his mouth.

By Sunday, after scolding Oscar for the 20th time to not eat Finn's pumpkin, I gave in and let him have it.

First he took it upstairs to try to bury it somewhere (this usually means he hides it in the closet). Even when we headed upstairs to go to bed, he brought it along.

He loves this pumpkin for some reason. He hasn't even tried to eat it, just carries it around, cuddles with it and licks it.

Sleeping on it.

Licking his new baby.

Oscar Eat It?

We have three baby birds in our big tree. We have been watching them since we they were eggs. Just last week they were naked birds with closed eyes.

Last night Ben went outside to water the plants and heard Mama (the mama bird) going crazy and screaming. Ben went along the side of the house and saw a cat trying to get one of the babies.

We chased the cat off, and returned the baby to his nest.

Here is a picture of the baby we saved.
Here is one of the other little chubby birds, safe.
Then this morning, Ben is outside with Oscar, and I hear madness coming from outside. It sounds like a million birds freaking out. Apparently, it was only three adult birds and Oscar had gotten one of the babies in his mouth and all three adults were screaming at him and diving at him.

Luckily Oscar chickened out and dropped the baby bird, who jumped off to safety.

Finn and I were standing on the porch while all this was going on. When we walked inside, Finn asked "Oscar eat it?", then kept repeating "Oscar bite". He is so observant.

Hopefully the babies all learn to fly today or at least learn to not jump out of their nest. Keeping those babies safe, is like a full time job.

My short love affair with Bowie

Not David Bowie. Bowie the dog. Ben has wanted a second dog for a while now. He found one online that he fell in love with so we drove up to Park City to check him out. He is a really cute dog and so sweet. Furburbia does 3 day trials with their dogs which I think is a great idea. So I gave in and brought Bowie home to see how he'd do with Oscar and Finn.

He is great with Finn and Finn loves "Buwee" so much. Bowie and Oscar on the other hand do not get along. Oscar is what you could call a hyper dog. He plays hard, but luckily for us, also sleeps hard at night. Oscar has wanted to play non-stop for two days, but Bowie would rather cuddle on the couch with his new "parents". Anytime Oscar would want to play with him, I think Bowie would feel under attack and Bowie would growl and attack back.

Within these 2 days, Bowie has already become protective of his parents and if he is laying with us and Oscar walks up, he growls at him.

Oscar got up temporarily from "his spot" in bed, and Bowie ran over and curled right up in his spot. Oscar wasn't mad, just kinda walked over to him, and Bowie growled and snapped at him. Second night went a little better, Oscar just laid down by him and didn't give up.

So after 2 days, we've decided to take Bowie back to Furburbia. I have felt bad that we are constantly getting mad at Oscar for "playing". I feel sick to my stomach and very sad about this. He is really good, well mannered dog. Very friendly and cuddly. Just the complete opposite of our crazy dog who is our first priority (after Finn) and the love of our lives.

So if anyone wants a very cute, small, non-shedding dog who is mostly potty trained and absolutely LOVES his humans (including toddlers) meet Bowie, the ChiYorkie.

Pretty much the biggest mystery ever.

Sunday night when we got home from Escalante, I opened the front door to go get the mail and saw this.

What is really weird about it, is that this is the exact dog food that we use, Science Diet, Adult Small Bites. I don't know how anyone would know that. Especially my neighbors who I have never let past my front room.

So is it safe? Dog food is expensive, so I'll gladly take it. I'm just really confused.

Oscar's Report Card

Everyone that knows Oscar would think his report card would get a big D, maybe even an F. But apparently he is a wonderful dog to everyone except his owners.

This is his report card from The Dog Lodge, where he stayed while we were in Vegas. And just in case you were wondering, he hasn't missed Dozer at all.

Just in case you can't read it, here is what it says:
Oscar was a very good boy this visit. He was a bit shy at first, but he quickly warmed up and began making friends. He had lots of jun playing with his best friend Dozer, a Pug mix. He also enjoyed lots of love and attention from the staff when he was not busy playing.

Oscar was good in his room. He went right in and didn't scratch, mess or cry. He ate all of his food and he always went going potty outside during the day.

Oscar had such a great time. We loved getting to know him and hope he will return soon for another visit.

Wheeler Farm

So it's pretty obvious that Finn loves animals. Saturday we went to Wheeler Farm with Grandma and Grandpa to see the farm animals. The best thing about this activity is that it was completely free. Except for the Ice Cream that Grandma bought everyone.

Feeding the goats.

Down by the river.

Grandma showing Finn how to drive the tractor.

Oscar staring at the ducks (dinner).

After all the walking around, Finn really needed to use the Outhouse (original to farm, over 100 years old.)

Scared Puppy

These

are making my walks with Oscar VERY difficult.

Easter Basket

The Easter Bunny brought one basket for everyone on Sunday. A Mountain Dew for daddy, an Almond Joy egg for Mommy, a singing rat and busy bones for Oscar and big boy spoons and cups for Finn.

Oscar may seem dumb, but he is smart when it comes to toys, he immedietly knew that the rat was for him. And it's been singing a hilliarous song ever since. He also, somehow knew that the bag of candy we had, was Jelly Beans, his favorite.

Oscar Loves Marley

We had a new little puppy visiting us over the last week. John's girlfriend's puppy needed a place to stay. They think she is a Heeler/Chow mix.

It has been the best week of Oscar's life having a puppy around all day everyday. She is so cute, but is leaving the Dickerson house today.

Meet Marley.

Oscar Got a Haircut.

Oscar is a Schnauzer. We rarely get him cut like a Schnauzer, because I think it looks funny. I want my dog looking like a puppy, not like an old man. Well over the weekend we took him in to get cut, he REALLY needed it. I told the lady to "schnauzer him up". I think he looks hillarious. But cute. I love that when his ears get shaved, they stand strait up. I didn't get a good full body shot because he was extremely hyper. Why do dogs get so hyper after baths?

Helping with the Laundry

Saturday we cleaned house a bit. I came upstairs and Ben had the sheet over Finn. The ultimate game of Peek a Boo.

Big surprise, he is eating the sheet.

You can't really tell what this is, but Oscar wanted to get in on the action.

All Done.

Winter Wonderland

Sunday morning we woke up to over a foot of new snow. Oscar didn't even want to go potty because the snow was deeper than he was. It was exciting, it was warm outside and beautiful. Perfect play in the snow day. We didn't, but everyone else did.

Driving around I saw probably 20 snowmen in our neighborhood. Here are a few that I took pictures of with my camera phone. You can't tell how impressive these really are, but one is probably 8 feet tall. And the far away picture is a family of snowmen.

This is our driveway. After Ben and our neighbors were shoveling for what seemed like hours, they finally made an executive decision and only use one side of the driveway, until some of this melts. With the wind blowing the snow, the side of our house, where the driveway is, had about three feet of snow. Notice the side of the house, There four steps there, and you can't even see the top one.

Luckily John didn't have school, because it took him a good 45 minutes to shovel out his car.

The funniest part of the day was Oscar. When everyone was out shoveling, I opened the door to see if Oscar would try to go out to everyone. He jumped off the side porch and landed in about 3 feet of snow. After a few seconds of barking, he backed himself up, and ran inside. We were all laughing so hard.

Here are a few shots of him jumping through the snow and trying to go the bathroom. We also took a short video.
