For Christmas I did a Dickerson family calendar for Ben's mom. It turned out amazing. I would highly suggest using Snapfish for photo calendars. So I spent tons of time gathering photos from all the brothers. This is my niece Peyton, Ben's brother David's daughter. Very cute, love her static hair.

Family Party

Nothing really happened over the weekend. Ben was feeling a cold come on and Finn had a runny nose and we didn't want him getting more sick, so we were mellow. Highlight of Saturday, it snowed all day. I'm so sick of snow, I want flip flop weather!

Tonight, my cousin had a 2nd Birthday party for her daughter. All Precia had to say was Panini's and we were there. I didn't get the camera out until the end, so all I have is all the kids gathered around Finn. Finn was the youngest, so he was pretty much the favorite guest at the party. (Sorry Zinnia!)

Flashback Friday - Dang Good Breakfast

Here I am about to order a good ole fashion breakfast at one of the best diners this side of the Mississippi. (I use "best" loosely) I've eaten at the Golden Loop so many times I can't count.

This is Liz Nielsen on the left, my next door neighbor / best friend growing up, my cousin Precia is in the middle and I'm on the right. I'm sure I ate something fabulously greasy.



What I love about this picture is the locals in the background smiling for the picture.

Don't we all look so good for not showering??

Flashback Friday - Alice

Alice was a rich, plantation owner's daughter. She lived in Myrtle Beach hundreds of years ago. Classic love story, she fell in love with a poor man and her family forbade the relationship. The love of her life gave Alice a ring which she wore around her neck.

Alice became very sick and was on her death bed. Her father noticed the ring around her neck, and threw it out the window into the marshes of South Carolina. Alice died days later from a broken heart.... and a deadly illness.

To this day, people see Alice wandering the coast and marshes of Myrtle Beach searching for her ring. There have also been sightings of her at the graveyard where she was buried.

Alice is buried in the most beautiful graveyard I've ever seen. Huge old trees and beautiful old tombstones.

Legend says, if you walk around Alice's headstone backwards, 13 times, her ring will appear. It worked. You can't really tell because the picture is so small, but if you look really closely you can see the ring I'm pointing at. It looks a little like Precia's wedding ring, but I promise it's Alice's.



This graveyard is one of our favorite stops when we go to Myrtle Beach. Precia and I took my little cousins with us too. They look terrified. I love it.

Wayback Wednesday - Ode to Uno, Cops and Robbers, Bean-o, and Yellow Water

Since I am going to be out of town for Thanksgiving, I decided to do a onetime "Wayback Wednesday" instead of "Flashback Friday". Flashback Friday will return on November 30th, don't worry.

This weekend I am going to one of my favorite places in the world, Escalante. My aunt and uncle own a bunch of land down there and there used to be a house we'd go spend weeks at a time at. When I was in high school the house burned down. Several years later, Jeff and Joette built The Slot Canyon Inn, where we will be staying this weekend.

I have so many great memories from there during every stage of my life. The pictures below are not all the same trip, I was scrambling at 11:00 last night to find these.

To start off, a journal entry from when I was six.




A small sampling of my family.





The little house and barn that was built by Isaac Riddle over 100 years ago. My cousin moved the small house up the hill and rebuilt. Now you can rent the entire cabin.



The original Rex house that was built in the 80s. We had one big party kids room upstairs with 3 bunk beds. A basement that was used for Haunted Houses and either a Drug House or Police Station for Cops and Robbers on the four wheelers. After the family grew a bit, the basement was finished as a huge room with futons and tables for the girls to set up their makeup.



A summer hike to Calf Creek Falls with my cousins Spencer and Precia. I've done this hike a million times, but I still love it.

I have no memory of this picture, but it sure looks like fun.





I'm on the left (age 1), brother McKay is next to me (age 3), Cousin Precia is next (age 4), and cousin Adam is on the right (age 1). I am guessing on the ages, we might be a little bit older, but I'm close enough!

Day Off

I love having a day off mid-week. Yesterday my cousin Precia came over with her two youngest girls. We sat around and talked for about an hour and then went off to Chilli's to meet her sister April for lunch. It was so fun, I haven't hung out with them in forever. April picked up the tab at Chilli's so that was even better!

We have decided that we need to do a cousin's lunch date at least once a month and next time we'll try to get more people to come along.
